For nearly four years Rolf was the Curator of Oral and Musical Cultures at the British Library - Qatar Foundation Partnership in London and Doha. In this role he managed the digitisation of historical audio recordings from the Arabian Gulf region, researched the musical traditions of this area and composed articles for the Qatar Digital Library (QDL). For this project he also conducted fieldwork in Oman, Kuwait, Qatar and the UK.

The QDL, a part of the Qatar National Library, is probably the single most important online resource base on Arabic history in the world. Since working for the British Library Rolf has continued writing expert articles for the QDL.
